A message to all you so called "Dancers".
You can’t call yourself a dancer if you can’t interpret the music with your dance. In other words, improvise/ freestyle. This is mainly directed towards most choreo heads. A lot of you call yourself “dancers”, but you dance off of other people’s work. I bet if I put on a song and told you to bug out and dance, you’d either freeze up, do some 5678 shit, make an excuse about how you don’t have any choreo to that song, or say you need a mirror to dance with. You can’t be a dancer without knowing how to freely move with the music. You can put on any song for me and I will dance to it. Regardless of the style, I will do me and dance. A lot of kids nowadays go on youtube looking at other dancers and try to imitate what they see. I’m not saying it’s bad to watch other dancers, but it’s bad biting their work and not using it to implement your own style/ twist to it. Dance is an art. And to be able to pursue this art correctly, you must create and showcase your own craft. Taking classes, workshops, and being in a team, isn’t a bad thing. Just make sure that’s not all you do, because all you will know is choreography. Don’t be a choreo robot… be a dancer.
: To all you choreo people out there (hence I said people), please do not call yourself a hip hop dancer or sometimes in certain situations a dancer in general! My belief is exactly what Eranetik is ranting about plus more. There is one hip hop dance, and it’s bboying; if you’re not bboying you’re not a hip hop dancer. And again to you choreo heads, if you can dance with out doing some 8 count (freestyling wise), save the bull. Nuff said.
